Dinkum Bohos have an extensive repertoire that draws upon inspiration from around the globe: flamenco, tango, jazz, blues, gypsy, folk, cabaret, ambient, songs in French, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Indian dhrupad and mantra.
They have played in many spaces and places:
theatres, halls, festivals, restaurants, cafes, cabarets, soirees, clubs, pubs, art galleries, poetry events, fundraisers, funerals, circuses, weddings, wineries, wakes, markets, schools, bar mitzvahs, cinemas, parties, yoga centres, wellness retreats, hospitals, shopping centres, fields, lounge rooms, courtrooms, radio stations, meditations….where to next…..your place???
FLAMENCO Vasudha and Jem share a love of all things flamenco which shines through in their music. It’s bush flamenco…..Jem’s guitar stylings are inspired by flamenco legends such as Diego del Gastor, Moraito Chico, Tomatito and of course Paco de Lucia. You might also catch Vasudha making some flamenco dance moves or playing the casteñuelas. Feel free to clap along….Olé!

MUSIQUE FRANÇAISE Vasudha loves to sing in French! Chansons by Francois Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg, Felix Leclerc, Carla Bruni, Yves Montand as well as accordéon musettes and selections from Yann Tiersen’s much loved Amélie soundtrack. Add piano instrumentals by Satie and improvisations and a whole evening of French music is possible. C’est si Bon.

TANGO Dinkum Bohos play instrumental Astor Piazzolla tangos and improvisations on piano, drums, guitar and accordion. (No not at the same time….but you never know with these two!)

JAZZ and BLUES Dinkum Bohos pay homage to greats such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Dollar Brand, Gil Scott Heron, Roberta Flack, Dr John, Joe Cocker and more.
“Tom’s Waitress” (video below) is a beat poet ode to Tom Waits and includes their signature duelling four hander on the piano where nothing’s ever played the same way twice. This song is an audience favourite and features on the album Stereognostic
FOLK Part of the modern folk movement, the pair draw inspiration from their Celtic heritage as well as traditional music from around the world. Jem has hand crafted two folk harps especially for Vasudha under the expert tutelage of renowned harp maker Geoff Welham. Below is her 36 string floor harp photographed in the beautiful northern rivers.

AMBIENT PIANO The Bohos love to lush out at the keys either alone or together. They create a gentle ambience with their freeform piano pieces.

EVENTS “The Dinkum Bohos played at a fundraising gig for The Buttery in an open air venue. It was a lunch time event with lots of different conversations going on, friends greeting each other, catching up and general partying around the food tables, so it was pretty noisy. However despite this the Dinkum Bohos maintained a strong presence in the background,contributing to the party atmosphere by playing a variety of styles of music which engaged the people, entertained them and at the same time blended in to the event so that they were part of the event rather than the event itself.
